A very warm welcome to the 2019 academic year at Freshwater Christian College. I hope that you and your family had a lovely Christmas and that the New Year has started smoothly for you; I pray that you will enjoy a prosperous and productive year ahead.
The College staff have been very busy over the past two weeks in preparation for today’s big start to the year, we are all very excited to be welcoming the children back to the College and, in the case of the Preps, to their very first day of school!
It is a privilege to be involved in partnering with you, our parents, as we continue our mission together to empower your children to develop their God given talents and gifts and to confidently take their place in community to make a positive difference and lead a meaningful and fulfilling life.
We had a great 2018 with so many highlights! Not least our Year 12’s academic results; I am thrilled to announce that we had our best QCE results ever, with two OP1’s, and an OP2. In addition to this, twenty-five percent of our OP Eligible students received an OP 1 to 5. These are truly phenomenal results and underline the College’s commitment to academic success for all students. I take this opportunity to thank last year’s Year 12 students, their parents and the teaching/non-teaching staff who supported and went the ‘extra miles’ to ensure that every student experienced success relative to their individual area of gifting and talent.
The College continues to develop its resource base; this year we are truly blessed to be introducing the new $2.3million Hector Costello Innovation Centre, fitted with a range of new engineering and wood manufacturing machinery, 3D printers, laser cutters and robotics technology. This Centre of creativity and innovation will help us to take technology related learning, from Grade 4 to Year 12, to a whole new level. You can view a video of the Innovation Centre by clicking here.
Later this year we will begin building a new primary learning centre for Grade 5 and Grade 6 classes. This $2million ‘state of the art’ building will further empower us to engage students and staff in the wonder of learning within a fully equipped inspirational learning space. We will also be upgrading our existing art facilities with a $120,000 investment.
The College Masterplan began to take shape last year as we invited parents, staff and students to several ‘dream’ forums’, to contribute their ideas for the future development of the College site. Later this year we will be publishing the proposed Masterplan, a blueprint for the future development of the College.
This year’s College theme is COMMUNITY. To that end, we look forward to building stronger relationships with our families, staff and students, as well the key external agencies that support our Mission.
Please come and join us at the forthcoming Parent Welcome Evening (Tuesday 5th February at 5.30pm) for a BBQ and to find out more regarding the year ahead and ask any questions you may have regarding your child’s education at Freshwater Christian College.
Our key scripture for the year is taken from Romans 12:5: “There are many people who belong to Christ. And yet, we are one body which is Christ’s. We are all different but we depend on each other”.
Here’s looking forward to 2019 with expectancy as we continue to partner in community with your family and God in shaping the hearts and minds of a generation as we prepare them to live meaningful lives with the important values of integrity, humility, perseverance and faith.
