A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem.
1 I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
who made heaven and earth!
3 He will not let you stumble;
the one who watches over you will not slumber.
4 Indeed, he who watches over Israel
never slumbers or sleeps.
5 The LORD himself watches over you!
The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade.
6 The sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon at night.
7 The LORD keeps you from all harm
and watches over your life.
8 The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and
go,Romans 15:13 New Living Translation … Read the rest
The Great Wheelbarrow Race 2019
143kms. 3 days. 10 mates. 1 wheelbarrow. An unforgettable weekend.
May 17th – 19th marked the Great Wheelbarrow Race 2019, and as per annual tradition, the FCC Roadrunner team was revved and ready to run.
After months of physical training and preparation, our team of ten eager grade 12 students made their way to Mareeba to begin the three-day challenge of running with a wheelbarrow across vast expanses of scorching dirt and gravel roads.
Despite the festival vibes and excited moods of all involved, we couldn’t help but start to feel our stomachs clenching with anticipation. Before we knew it, we were off. Falls, scrapes and muscle pain became the norm as we continued to … Read the rest
With the ongoing drought throughout Australia, our farmers are doing it tough. Freshwater Church has started Freshwater Care which will be taking donated goods to support the families of our farmers. We as a College are doing our bit in support as well.
Our Secondary teacher, Mr Woolfield, has offered to have his beard shaved off if we raise over $2000, and while it is a fine beard indeed, it’s time for it to go! Who knows what Mr Woolfield might look like under that beard? All families in the College can donate money to support our farmers (and see the beard go!) via either the Primary Office, Secondary Office or Form Class teachers. We will also be having a … Read the rest
Freshwater Christian Kindergarten is now partnering with the “Stephanie Alexander” Kitchen Garden Program, whose vision is to enable children to form positive food habits for life, through fun pleasurable and educational food experiences and hands-on learning.
According to the Queensland Government, “The aim of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program is to introduce pleasurable food education which emphasises the flavours as well as the health benefits of fresh, seasonal food into as many Australian primary schools as possible”
This program equips our staff with the tools to set up productive gardens, grow plants to use this home-grown food in our cooking experiences; enabling us to sit and eat together, sharing our experiences and knowledge.
We would like to encourage any … Read the rest
On Friday the 15th of June, Freshwater Christian Kindergarten was awarded our “Inclusion Ready” sticker to display at our service (we are one of the first Cairns services to be awarded this honour). Freshwater Christian Kindergarten’s achievement was showcased along with other cairns services as a leader in inclusion at the recent “Inclusion in Practice” forum in Cairns on the 19th of July.
This sticker is a new way for the government to bring attention to services that have worked in partnership with the Inclusion Support Service to ensure our educators and teachers have embedded inclusive practices in our service. This has been a process of developing a living document, (a Strategic Inclusion Plan or SIP) that recognises … Read the rest
Here’s wishing you and your precious family a very happy and prosperous New Year.
I am very excited to be joining the Freshwater Christian College Community as the new Principal, and look forward to building on the excellent work that Mr Hector Costello has led in establishing the College as a provider of high quality Christian education.
In reflecting on the successes of 2017, we celebrate with our Year 12 students who managed to achieve the best overall results in the College’s history. We achieved 2 OP 1’s for the first time and had over half our Year 12 students achieve an OP of 10 or below. We also achieved many awards at local, State and National level.
We want to thank our sponsors for their upcoming support of our College Fair.

Challenges of the Journey
This week I received a visitor who reminded me of an unusual event that occurred six years ago at the College. About this time of year, three gentlemen used the College as a starting point for a 2,000 km walk to Stanthorpe. Many of our students walked with them for the first kilometre. They were walking to raise awareness for a missionary endeavour and also as a personal challenge for the individuals who were involved.
The visitor this week presented me with a book of that very adventure and all they encountered on that long walk. As I read through the book I was impacted not only by the description of the journey but of the … Read the rest
