Freshwater Christian College was represented by 3 teams in the annual Optiminds Challenge at JCU on the 20th August 2017. We had 18 students participate in the program over the past four weeks entering into Division 1 Social Sciences, Division 3 Social Sciences and Division 1 Language Literature. This was the first time experience for our primary students in the Division 1 sections.
Our Division 1 students Harry Lyle, Livinia Schaper, Lincoln Shean, Ruby Paterson, Rone’ Thompson and Liam Thomas displayed professionalism when they discovered Ethan Harley was injured and unable to attend. They managed to rearrange their lines in a small amount of time surprising the Judges with their dedication and team work.
The Division 1 Language Literature students Jen Nucifora, Marley Jamieson, Mitchell Rigby, Emily MacGregor, Scarlett Hartsuiker, Tiffany Everett and Janaya Byl staged a mighty performance that delighted the audience. They received first time honours for their efforts.
The Division 3 Social Science High school team Mali Byl, Danneka Watson, Pearl Perry and Claire Gilsenan timed their performance to perfection with a great debate between fruit and vegetables for the Market shelf. Our veteran team won their division with an outstanding performance and are eligible for the State Optiminds Tournament in Brisbane later this year.
We would like to especially thank Miss Yarwood, the parents and supporters for assisting us on the day.
